The Latest List of Investors Who Want to Enter IKN, There are Brunei and Malaysian Companies

The list of investors who want to enter the National Capital City or IKN Nusantara continues to grow. Deputy for Funding and Investment at the Archipelago Capital Authority (OIKN). Agung Wicaksono said that currently his party has received 281 Letters of Intent (LoI). Or expressions of interest from private investors to be involve in IKN development. The number of IKN investors is know to have increase after the 43rd ASEAN Summit was held on 7 to 9 September.

According to Agung, the LoI for IKN development is still dominated by ASEAN countries. “The most is still from Singapore investors with 27 LoIs, then Japan with 25 LoIs, Malaysia with 19 LoIs and there are also from China with 17 LoIs,” he said at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, Monday, September 11 2023. So, who are they? list of investors who want to join IKN?

1. Investor Prancis

On the sidelines of the first day of the G20 Summit on Saturday, September 9 2023, President Joko Widodo or Jokowi held a bilateral meeting with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. Jokowi is known to appreciate French investors’ plans to invest capital in strategic sectors in Indonesia, one of which is the national capital (IKN) of the archipelago.
He also hopes that the agreement can be realized soon. “(Regarding) investment in strategic sectors, I appreciate the French Ambassador to Indonesia for bringing potential French investors to IKN and producing four LoIs (Letters of Intent) to support IKN.

2. China

Before meeting French President Emmanuel Macron, Jokowi first met Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang in a bilateral meeting on Friday, September 8 2023 at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta. During the meeting, President Jokowi encouraged the concrete implementation of cooperation between Indonesia and China in the construction of the Archipelago Capital City (IKN).
Previously, President Jokowi met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Thursday, July 27 2023. At that time, he invited investment from China to participate in building the Indonesian Capital City (IKN), East Kalimantan. From the results of his meeting with Xi Jinping, Jokowi said that China’s investment interest in Indonesia was quite large. President Jokowi will highlight various sectors that have the potential to be investment targets, including IKN, at a meeting with Chinese investors, Friday, July 28 2023.

3. Companies from Malaysia and Brunei

Apart from France and China, companies from Malaysia and Brunei will also enter as investors in IKN. OIKN Deputy for Funding and Investment Agung Wicaksono said that his party had received 19 letters of intent from companies from Malaysia. “There have been 19 letters of intent from Malaysia and several of them have carried out feasibility studies for building housing,” said Agung in a written statement on Tuesday, September 6 2023.

Apart from Malaysia, Agung said that Brunei companies had also shown interest in investing in IKN. The business commitment from Malaysia and Brunei was obtained by OIKN at the Borneo Business Roundtable event which is part of a series of ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) activities. The three-country business meeting took place at The Sultan Hotel, Jakarta on Tuesday, September 6 2023.

4. Aguan

Apart from coming from abroad, IKN investors also come from within the country. Sugianto Kusuma alias Aguan is one of the conglomerates who will invest in IKN. This was conveyed directly by the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahaladian.

Bahlil said that the founder of the Agung Sedayu Group would build a number of facilities at IKN, such as hotels, city landscaping, sports centers and cafes. Previously, Aguan had been appointed as the leader of the Domestic Investment or PMDN consortium at IKN Nusantara.

On Friday, August 11 2023, together with Bahlil and Deputy Head of the IKN Authority Dhony Rahajoe, his party visited the project area. Aguan is optimistic that the government can hold the Indonesian Independence Day ceremony on August 17 2024 at IKN Nusantara. “Business permits are easy, so the opportunity (to hold) a ceremony on August 17 2024 is very big,” said Aguan in a written statement, Monday, August 14 2023.

5. Sukanto Tanoto

Sukanto Tanoto is also a conglomerate who is an investor in IKN. Together with Aguan, Sukanto Tanoto cs will build a number of public facilities. Not only that, Bahlil said that the conglomerates would build stations at IKN. Bahlil even revealed that groundbreaking for the construction would begin in September.

Based on Tempo records on September 29 2019, Sukanto Tanoto controls around 48 thousand hectares of land in the new capital area. This land is a concession right owner by their company through PT ITCI Hutan Manunggal (IHM) in East Kalimantan. This land was then hand over to use as the capital of the Indonesian archipelago.

6. Anthony Salim

Most recent. The boss of the Salim Group. Anthoni Salim. said to following Aguan and Sukanto Tanoto to invest in IKN. Bahlil Lahadalia also confirmed that the Salim Group and other domestic entrepreneurs would hold a groundbreaking at IKN next September.

“In September, they had groundbreaking several developments such as hotels, then meeting rooms and restaurants,” said Bahlil in Cikarang, West Java, on Wednesday, August 30 2023.
